Plans submitted for Gensler’s floating park in London

Gensler has submitted plans for a kilometre-long floating park on London’s Thames river, which is scheduled for completion before the 2012 Summer Games.

The River Park, on the north bank between Blackfriars and Tower Bridge, will have free entry and contain gardens, an events space, a lido and docking stations for river boats.

The idea won Best Conceptual Project and the overall Planning Excellence Award at the London Planning Awards. It was described by London mayor Boris Johnson as an “ingenious proposal”.
