To raise awareness and funds to address the three million feral cat population in Los Angeles, “Architects for Animals” recently tasked twelve local architects to design outdoor cat shelters.
Their designs have now been put up for auction to benefit FixNation, a pro-spay and neuter organisation.
Twelve firms in all, including HOK, Perkins + Will, Knowhow Shop, Standard Architects, RNL Design, Formation Association and more contributed designs – some of them very unusual, others impressively practical to their feline programme.
“Architects for Animals invited LA’s top architecture and design firms to build and donate creative and functional outdoor dwellings for cats,” said the group.
“The breadth of designs was remarkable. Some incorporated items such as built-in feeding bowls, toy mice, and even an actual fishbowl with live fish.”
