The recently revealed shortlist for this year’s RIBA Stirling Prize – the UK’s most prestigious architecture  award – has received criticism in the British press.

The shortlist include’s Zaha Hadid’s Evelyn Grace Academy, Bennetts Associates’ Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford, AHMM’s Angel building in London, David Chipperfield’s Folkwang in Essen, Germany, O’Donnell & Tuomey’s An Gaeláras in Derry, Ireland, and Hopkins’ Olympic Velodrome in London.

Building Design‘s Oliver Wainwright commented that the Stirling Prize is now simply “paying lip service to the safe and generic, rather than celebrating the truly innovative or joyful”.
