2012 Commercial Interior Design Awards winners

2012 CID Awards, at Emirates Towers

Members of the region’s interior design industry converged at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers on September 25, for the sixth annual Commercial Interior Design (CID) Awards.

There were 15 award categories in total, covering the whole spectrum of commercial interiors, from hospitality and retail, to public sector and institutional. Returning to the function this year was the American Hardwood Export Council’s Outstanding Use of American Hardwood in the Middle East award and the Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognised the contribution of an interior design professional to the industry. The latter was sponsored by Marina Gulf Trading, which was also the Platinum sponsor of the event.

LW Design won four honours and picked up three of the award’s most prestigious categories. Founder Lars Waldenstrom won was handed the Lifetime Achievement award, the firm won Middle East Design Firm of the Year and Pia Sen was named as Interior Designer of the Year, Middle East.

The firm also won Middle East Interior Design of the Year: Outdoor Design for its work on the Monte Carlo Beach Club in Abu Dhabi.

Laura Bielecki from GAJ won Young Interior Designer of the Year, Middle East after joining the firm late last year.

AK Design was lauded with two awards – Middle East Interior Design of the Year: Office for its work on Falcon & Associates, and the Behind the Scenes prize was picked up by its staff member, Ross Visitation.

Dubai-based Etcetera Living walked off with the Middle East Interior Design of the Year: Leisure & Entertainment award for the eco-friendly design of The Farm, while The Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi by Wilson Associates won the award for Middle East Interior Design of the Year: Hospitality.

For the second consecutive year, Von Saldern Hamed Design picked up the Middle East Interior Design of the Year: Residential award; this year for a Palm Jumeirah project.

Miele won the Middle East Interior Design of the Year: Retail for its design on its flagship Miele Gallery in Dubai. The Middle East Interior Design of the Year: Public Sector & Institutional award was given to the Gurdwara Temple by Bishop Design.

The Change Initiative by HOK won the award for the Sustainable Interior Design Initiative of the Year category, and AMBB was lauded for the Reader’s Choice Award as the Middle East Interior Contractor of the Year.

The American Hardwood Export Council’s Outstanding use of American Hardwood in the Middle East Award was won by Woods Bagot for Hakkasan Dubai.
