US architect Eric Owen Moss is set to receive the annual Jencks Award, granted by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), for design excellence at international level.
Moss will join the ranks of former recipients Zaha Hadid, Steven Holl, Charles Correa and Cecil Balmond.
The RIBA noted that Moss’ work has ‘helped shape the discourse of architectural internationally’.
Moss’s practice, Eric Owen Moss Architects (EOMA), has worked in global locations, including Russia and Austria, but the majority of its portfolio is in California, including the Samitaur Tower in Culver City (pictured).
Awards patron Charles Jencks added: “Eric Moss has been committed to evolving a unique local grammar of architecture from the Culver City, Los Angeles, vernacular that is at once creative, critical and evocative, a commitment to place and character for thirty years that is without parallel.”
