A tribute to Brazil: Buildings by Oscar Niemeyer

To celebrate the opening of the 2014 FIFA World Cup here are some of the designs by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, one of the most influential modernist designers of all time.

His curving designs created from the 1940s onwards are major attractions for visitors to the country.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Niemeyer is best-known for his civic buildings in the country’s capital, Brasilia, and he was also part of team who designed the United Nations building in New York.
