Rope Shelf, by Hungarian product designer Laszlo Rozsnoki, does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s a shelf made out of rope.
With the exception for the frame there are no horizontal and vertical lines, only diagonals. So, instead of offering conventional rectangular storage spaces, the shelf’s compartments are a variety of shapes and sizes.
The designer says that the “predominant feature of this piece of furniture is no longer its optimal use of space or its ordering nature, but it’s appearance”. In other words, if it’s too impractical to store anything, at least it looks cool.
