Savoy Vase

Displayed at the 1937 World’s Fair in Paris, the inspiration behind the Finnish master Alvar Aalto’s much-copied Savoy Vase was the traditional dress of a Sami woman.

The popularity of Aalto’s design has proved enduring, with the Iittala glass factory in Finland still churning out replicas, and designers, such as Tobi Wong, producing contemporary interpretations.
