The Swan chair

‘No straight lines – only curves’, that’s the design signature of Arne Jacobsen’s The Swan.

The architect and designer, who is less well known for his buildings and more renowned for his bold furniture, in particular that from the 50s when his work got recognition at the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen.

Designed for furniture company Fritz Hansen, The Swan is a moulded shell of synthetic material on an aluminium swivel base, covered in fabric or leather. It’s familiar form can be spotted all over the world and has been a popular staple of offices and lobbies for decades.
