British design entrepreneur Benjamin Hubert is set to give a keynote speech at the DesignMENA Summit this December.

Hubert represents a new generation of designers, designing products that will help define the way people live, work and communicate in the future. He has created everything from smart wearables and furniture systems to televisions, mobile devices and grooming tools.

Previously, in October 2010, aged 26, Hubert set up Benjamin Hubert Ltd., aiming to create long-lasting products that connect people and become new heirlooms.

It was during this period where Hubert became a leading voice in the design industry, challenging the traditional “royalty-based” model of lifestyle design, and creating both  a service and a retail platform.

He has collaborated with globally renown brands such as Moroso, Cappellini, Poltrona Frau and Ligne Roset, with works presented at various design festivals and events such as London Design Festival, Salone del Mobile, ICFF as well as Tokyo Design Week.

He has also received a number of awards including the RedDot Design Award,  iF Design Award, and London Musuem’s Designs of the Year.

Last year during London Design Festival, Hubert founded Layer, a creative agency focusing on meaningful experiences based on extensive research and human behaviors. The new agency involves a more holistic offering, from industrial design, mechanical and electrical engineering to user-experience and interaction design, to branding and human-centred research.

Layer is currently working on global brands such as Samsung, Nike, Braun, Oral B, BMW, Herman Miller and Friz-Hansen.

Hubert is also an advocate of using design as a force for change, and engages in not-for-profit charity project as well as working with young creatives in the field to support and mentor the designers of the future.

DesignMENA Summit will be taking place on Tuesday, 6 December at the Conrad Hotel in Dubai.
