“Flooring is the business card of the building,” said Angela Schaschen, managing director, Deutsche Messe Dubai branch, organiser of Domotex Middle East.
The trends in flooring are moving towards sustainability. Neel Bradham, VP of sales & marketing, InterfaceFLOR EMEAI, said using renewable and natural materials in products was important. “The ability to recycle our products and keep it out of a landfill is top priority,” said Bradham.
Flooring firm Desso follows the cradle-to-cradle (C2C) concept and claims its products can last up to 400 years with all the taking back and reassembling.
Andrew Sibley, sales and marketing director – emerging markets, Desso, said the company knows exactly what the sources of its products are, which allows them to take it back to its headquarters and re-assemble them.
“C2C products are not harmful for the environment or for humans,” said Julian Richardson, cradle-to-cradle advisor, Desso.
The top trends in the flooring industry are sustainability and bright colours, said Schaschen. “Apart from eco-friendly items, apple green and orange colours are popular,” said Schaschen.
Bradham predicts the flooring trends of 2012 in the UAE will be that of a mixture of different influences. “The trends in 2012 will be a mixture of things from all over the world; something like the Rio carnival,” he said.
