Human Space office furnishings, based in Oud Metha, Dubai, has signed up to become the UAE dealer of the Robin Day collection with UK-based manufacturer, Loft.
British designer Day, who died in 2010, is recognised worldwide for his contributions to design within the furniture industry, such as the Polo chair made in 1973 and the Club sofa in 1962.
“We are honoured to have the opportunity to work with Loft. Robin Day was such an iconic designer his pieces are timeless. The furniture is beautifully crafted using fine workmanship and quality materials; it is his legacy. It’s a pleasure to share with clients the vast history behind the products and Robin’s life,” said Gaurav Jaiswal, sales manager, Human Space.
According to Loft, Day was awarded the OBE for services rendered for the British furniture industry in 1959. His influence in both furniture and other areas of design since the post-war era up until today has been considerable. His designs are considered as seminal in the genetics of modern chair design.
The Polo chair was the first indoor/outdoor product to be made out of a polypropylene shell. It has become recognisable in schools, hospitals and other establishments around the world.
With its bright attractive colours and versatility both in terms of set up – it comes with a variety of bases including sled, 5 star, bar stool, beam – and use.
The Club sofa was Day’s take on the ‘English Chesterfield sofa.’ Sleek lines are the focus of the piece and lend it a ‘cube’ like feel to make a bold statement.
The stitching and ‘button’ placement makes the piece feel rugged and masculine, while the range of bright colours and soft wool options give it chic appeal. This piece was reissued with Loft in 2000.
The Leo won the ultimate seal of style approval when it was featured in early James Bond films, affirming the Leo’s iconic status. Created in 1965, the collection has a sophisticated style while still being functional and versatile.
