Crystal Automata.

Tell us about your company.

Preciosa Lighting is part of the Preciosa Group, one of the world’s leading companies in the field of the highest-precision cut crystal components. Over the centuries ,Preciosa has strengthened and deepened its knowledge of the characteristic properties of crystal glass, and we would like to reveal what we know about glass clarity, fragility and the ability to change shape into liquid form – at a level of masterly perfection.

What are your best-selling and latest products?

Our latest product is Crystal Automata in which the mechanical technology is exposed to view – not hidden away in a black box, but open, as in some complex wristwatches, so that the viewer may witness motion in action, appreciate the complexity of the mechanics and wonder at its perfection.
It is complicated to define the best-selling products as our company is annually shifting its core business from residential lighting that is represented by elegant handmade chandeliers and luxury lamps to lighting installations. These complex lighting solutions are designed for luxury interiors worldwide.

What trends do you see in lighting design?

Following this year’s trends, we will continue with using and searching for further possibilities of LED technology. This innovation allows us to create modern, airy chandeliers without the necessity to use outdated components where they are not suitable. This enables us with many options of modifications – ceiling and wall fixtures, delicate pendants or bigger clusters of lightings. Generally, we aim for such lighting projects that combine the finest manual work of our glass masters with progressive innovation, providing our customers luxury custom-made product for their interiors.

What projects have you been involved in?

Preciosa light fittings and chandeliers decorate interiors throughout the world, including Versailles, St. Petersburg, London, Dubai, Macao and New York, as well as commercial premises and public or private palaces and residences worldwide.

What are your best-selling and latest products?

As a custom lighting company, it is very rare for us to produce identical products. Whether it be a size or finish, people will often tweak our models, or we are producing 100% custom. Our residential line, Wired Custom Lighting is popular for its rock crystal, and while it is often too expensive material to use in commercial projects, we have a convincing faux finish that we are using extensively in jobs worldwide.

What projects have you been involved in?

Currently, we are building the majority of the decorative lighting for the St. Regis in Cairo. Other projects include the Four Seasons Abu Dhabi, Mandarin Oriental Doha, Doha Festival City Mall, Sofitel Riyadh, JW Marriott Marquis Grosvenor House in London.

What trends do you see in lighting design?

The traditional crystal chandelier is rarely requested anymore in commercial projects. Fixtures currently are more like art pieces or sculptures. They are the stamp that a designer can put on their project and accordingly each one is different. As we aren’t limited by materials or scale, we are being used more and more to achieve these unique pieces.

What trends do you see in lighting design?

Since the transition to LED technology, we are now witnessing the next industrial revolution called the Internet of Things (IoT). As a specialist for innovative lighting, components and systems, we are convinced that lighting will play a decisive role in the IoT. We will not only connect luminaires with each other but deliver a value-add that goes far beyond lighting. We can help monitor how much time customers spend at a specific area of a retail store or use luminaires to guide visitors through a museum.
Secondly, personalisation of light is also a key topic for the future, whether it be in a work environment, shopping experiences or a visit to a restaurant. It is all about individuals taking control of their lit environment. Our intelligent control systems that connect to your smartphones allow colour changing or dimming of individual luminaires at a push of a button. Thanks to LED technology and connectivity we are not only able to follow these trends but also ensure highly efficient energy consumption which is becoming increasingly relevant to the society we live in.
