Meet the CID Awards Platinum sponsor: Marina Home

Marina Home, the Dubai-based home furnishings company, which operates across the Middle East markets, North Africa and the Indian subcontinent, is once again, for the fifth consecutive year, the Platinum Sponsor of the Commercial Interior Design Awards 2016.

CID talks to Khurshid Vakil, co-founder and executive director of Marina Home, who shares his expectations for this year’s event and company’s future expansion plans.

“The last four years of close association with the CID Awards as title sponsor is a testament to our mutual belief in the event and how all the touch points benefit both the organisations,” says Vakil.

Commenting on the main challenges designers and architects face today, Vakil notices that many projects across the region lack originality.

“What is generally seen is that most architects and designers take inspiration from successful projects for their respective scope of work. Uniqueness is diminishing. The character is too saturated. Individuality must be brought back rather than producing repetitive cut-and-paste works with a twist,” explains Vakil, also noticing that the UAE design and architecture industry has certainly come of age and that the progressiveness is evident.

This season Marina Home launched a range of modern industrial products that also have a contemporary feel.

“We believe that if you don’t evolve, you don’t remain relevant in the industry. Our strategy is to continually present products that are of high quality and diverse in their look and feel,” adds Vakil.

Last December Marina Home Interiors opened its largest store on Umm Suqueim Road in Dubai (pictured), with a showroom spanning 3,750m2.

Established in 1997, the company has ambitious plans for further international growth, including new stores in Islamabad, Pakistan, 2,800 m2 flagship stores in Jeddah and Riyadh, KSA as well as stores in Doha, Qatar and Cairo, Egypt, which are due to open in the last quarter of the year.
