New launches at ISH Frankfurt 2017

Under the motto “Water. Energy. Life”, more than 2,460 exhibitors at this year’s ISH Frankfurt presented the latest bathroom products, building services, energy, air-conditioning and renewable energy technology.

The ISH Water area, which comprised the “Bathroom Experience” and the “World of Installation Technology”, exhibited the latest developments in design, as well as sustainable technologies. Along with water-efficient and technology-driven solutions, easy-to-clean materials seemed to be the most common theme among the leading bathroom manufacturers.

Commercial Interior Design and designMENA.com visited the fair and rounded up the latest novelties from the top brands, including Grohe, Duravit, Hansgrohe, Geberit, Keramag, Roca, RAK Ceramics, Ideal Standard, Kaldewei, Laufen and Bagno Design.

Grohe adds intelligence as the fourth element of the smart home

Under the slogan “Water. Intelligence. Enjoyment”, Grohe introduced several concepts and products that improve well-being in the home as well as a smart home innovation system that protects the home from water damage.

Grohe Sense can warn homeowners in case of water leakage, flooding and unwanted levels of humidity while Grohe Sense Guard instantly shuts off the water supply in case of water leakage.

AquaSymphony.

During ISH Grohe also launched the exclusive shower AquaSymphony, which comes with an integrated steam bath, a special light and a dedicated song “Rain” by AquaSymphony, created by DJ Moguai.

Grohe’s Sensia Arena is a wall-hung shower toilet manufactured in Japan, but designed in Europe.

Roca launches Carmen and the new Baia, Armani collection

Celebrating its 100th anniversary, Roca presented an exclusive vitreous china collection. Beyond is an urban proposal with sophisticated solutions for basins shaped by Roca’s new material, Fineceramic, and the latest technologies in the design of bathroom products. Carmen also pays tribute to the past with the redesign of an iconic model from Roca’s centenary history.

Carlos Velázquez, Roca’s corporate marketing director, tells designMENA that the classical Carmen washbasin is coming back with a vintage style to become a new complete bathroom collection with the most advanced features, such as rimless toilets.

“Carmen was developed by Roca in 1946 and, based on this washbasin, we developed an entire set,” says Velázquez. “Carmen is about the past in terms of design, but with new features that we didn’t have 50 years ago and that look to the future.”

Roca has also launched a new collection called Beyond, featuring advanced technology with a user-friendly interface.

Baia, the new Armani/Roca collection was also presented at ISH 2017, which manages to be both contemporary and timeless, in accordance with Giorgio Armani’s well-known design philosophy.

JEE-O and Brian Sironi present the new flow series

JEE-O worked in close collaboration with top Italian designer Brian Sironi to develop a new collection: the flow series. This new series had its world premiere at the ISH.

“Taps and mixers always consist of three parts: handle, spigot and that section that connects the two. That makes traditional mixers fairly masculine,” Sironi explains. It was his intention to design a feminine mixer, which meant that the spigot had to go. All the non-essentials have been eliminated, resulting in a flowing, smooth curved lines, from which water flows in a surprising way.

Duravit launches Luv and  Vero Air

At the ISH 2017, Duravit exhibited new designs for the whole bathroom. Luv’s unusual design combines Nordic purism and timeless elegance. The selection of materials and colours to Cecilie Manz’s refined sense for nuanced form. Her colour range of matt lacquers and glazes in soft shades was developed exclusively for Duravit and emphasises the fresh character of Luv.

Another new collection Vero Air retains the iconic, rectangular character of the Vero washbasins while introducing new technical distinctions. Through the recent additions of rimless toilets, a new range of bathtubs and various pieces of furniture using c-bonded technology, Vero Air has become a complete bathroom range while retaining its strong, design-focused identity.

Prospero Rasulo designs Cameo for Valdama

The collection of Cameo washbasins is characterised by the outer frame of the basin, a visual and functional element that creates diversely distributed tops to integrate the taps and store bathroom accessories.

The washbasins are designed to be wall or console mounted, but there is another standalone version placed on a tubular metal structure.

A collection of washbasins made of fine fire clay, is able to give the bathroom a feeling of smoothness and refinement, due to details like the slightly raised slim perimeter rim.

RAK Ceramics showcases its latest rimless collections

RAK Ceramics presented its new corporate brand identity and unveiled its latest sanitaryware range at its stand, designed by Italian architect Massimiliano Raggi. This year’s themes for the ISH bathroom experience focused on wellness, comfort and sustainability.

Combined with water-saving technology, designs and silent flush, RAK Ceramics has developed five new rimless WC models for its existing ranges, including the wall-hung, back-to-wall and closed coupled toilets Washington, Elena, Series 600, Harmony/Moon and Tonique. It also presented a brand-new concept, RAK Morning (pictured), an affordable and wide range, incorporating the latest rimless technology.

The RAK Ceramics stand also display the company’s latest mix and match tile collections, including its super-sized Maximus Mega Slabs.

Laufen Sonar by Patricia Urquiola

Having designed the Laufen showroom in Madrid, Patricia Urquiola created wall-hung washbasins, washbasin bowls and bathtubs using Laufen SaphirKeramik.

With Sonar the internationally acclaimed and eclectic designer revealed the third generation of the Laufen SaphirKeramik project which is currently in development.

Laufen’s Val bathroom collection was first presented in 2015, and the Munich star designer Konstantin Grcic has now designed new pieces for the collection, offering new possibilities for bathroom design.

Along with new washbasins, the additions to the collection also include rimless toilets, a bidet, a circular, free-standing bathtub, and a complete faucet series.

Bagnodesign introduces Mezzanine and Biarritz

Bagnodesign showcased a number of its latest lines, encompassing all areas of the bathroom from brassware through to furniture. Brassware in a wide choice of finishes is one of the highlights of the brand’s stand at ISH 2017.

Combining strong geometric lines with some of the hottest colour trends for the bathroom, Mezzanine is a contemporary collection of furniture and sanitaryware guaranteed to brighten up any space.

Emphasising the flexibility of the brand, the stand displayed various furniture options, including pieces from the recently extended Biarritz collection, plus the M-Line and Metreaux countertops, all of which respond to the latest trends in bathroom design. Providing an essential storage solution for the modern bathroom, with classical detailing throughout, the Biarritz wall-mounted vanity unit can be chosen in Noire, Matt White or Ivoire. The drawer of the unit is soft-close as standard, while a variety of handles are available for an individual finish.

Ever Life Design presents DOT

Ever Life Design launched DOT, a new collection of bathroom accessories, created by Monica Graffeo. A collection of complementary furnishing and accessories, which are based on the concept “design for all“, are modular, multi-functional, and suitable to be used both in narrow spaces and spacious bathrooms, thanks to a careful design and to the technical features of this new line: a thin but resistant steel cable, sliding inside cylindrical solid body, fixed to the wall.

The cable acts as a towel holder for the washbasin and bidet, but it is also a useful support, on which various accessories can be hung. This new collection also includes various accessories: shelves, toilet paper holder, additional steel cables or cylindrical bodies.

Geberit unveils Acanto bathroom series

For Geberit and its Keramag brand, ISH 2017 was all about innovative sanitary technology in front of and behind the wall. The new Acanto bathroom series and the Setaplano shower surface were the main focus.

The new Geberit shower surface Setaplano is made of a high-quality solid surface material; it has a silky-smooth and warm-to-touch surface and is also easy to clean. The number of individual parts required for installation is kept to a minimum.

The new bathroom series Keramag Acanto comprises everything that a bathroom has to offer nowadays. The furniture and ceramic sanitary appliances have a timeless design and are individually combinable. This flexibility is down to both the large selection of surfaces and colours as well as the wide range of washbasins and bathroom furniture, rimless toilets, bidets and bathtubs.

Christophe Pillet designs Memoria Elements for Vitra

As a part of its 2017 collection, Vitra launched Memoria Elements, a new range of bathroom furniture. This series by French designer Christophe Pillet is characterised by organic forms, modern designs and minimal details.

A swivel cabinet offers 360-degree freedom of use, has a mirror, bar for hanging clothes, removable drawer in the middle, and open/closed storage spaces. The range also features LED lighting on the top, creating an elegant ambience in the bathroom.

My Bag by Olympia Ceramica

My Bag by Olympia Ceramica is a wash basin system that can be closed away where necessary, turning into a functional vanity counter.

The taps, featuring clean-cut silhouettes and mainly two-tone, can be folded down to close it all away; the wash basin can be accessorised with a soap dispenser; the leather side storage compartment becomes an organiser; and the small wooden pull-out compartment includes a practical make-up mirror.

Strong appearance by Axor and Hansgrohe

This year, the Hansgrohe Group, with its brands Axor and Hansgrohe, debuted with a new Axor collection of taps for washbasins, showers and bathtubs. Additionally, the expressive and consistently geometric design is the hallmark of a new line of showerheads and taps being introduced by Hansgrohe this year. The brand also presented its new sink combination solutions.

Thorsten Klapproth, chairman of the executive board of the Hansgrohe Group, says: “We have taken water in the bathroom and the kitchen into new dimensions, adding functional value, and thereby creating a completely new water experience for users.”

Both radical and modern minimalism are the distinguishing styles, Axor presented a new spray type, which has been perfected by years of research.

Ideal Standard launches Intellimix  

Ideal Standard premiered a number of product solutions this year at ISH. Intellimix is a touch-free tap delivering both soap and water from a single device, saving more than 50% of water and soap and at the same time.

Connect Air is Ideal standard’s newest launched suite consisting of ceramics, furniture, bathtubs and shower trays, featuring Aquablade flush technology that sets standards in toilet hygiene and water efficiency.

Werner Aisslinger designs for Kaldewei

Studio Aisslinger, founded by Werner Aisslinger and Tina Bunyaprasit, produced two design studies in filigree steel enamel for Kaldewei. The design story revolves around the reinterpretation of bathtub and washbasin as sculptural yet functional structures in a given space. With its Grid and Tricolore concepts, Kaldewei presents the consummate design of filigree, weightless bathroom objects made of steel enamel.

Pure, fine-edged bathtubs and washbasins are interpreted in an innovative way. The hallmark of the Grid concept is the way surfaces and volumes are dissolved in favour of an open framework structure.

“In future bathrooms will be the only places in the home where daily rituals are more important than the omnipresent digital world,” says Werner Aisslinger, explaining his new love of bathroom objects. “For designers that means creating an oasis of wellbeing that is also more colourful, material-oriented and ever more unconventional and imaginative.”

Giovanna Talocci with Marco Pallocca designs Seaside Luce

The joint effort by Giovanna Talocci and Marco Pallocca has given rise to Seaside Luce, the new bathtub by Teuco where light plays the starring role. As its name suggests – luce means light in Italian – everything revolves around light.
