Various design and architecture teams hailing from Turkey and Lebanon have received top honours in the regional Holcim Awards 2014 for Africa Middle East, which recognises the most innovative and advances sustainable construction designs.
One of the top three winning projects is an ‘Eco Park’, which refers to a sustainable research and technology centre embedded within the industrial landscape of Ankara, Turkey.
Together, the 12 winning projects will share a $300,000 prize, with the top three winners going on to be considered for the global Holcim Awards, which will be announced in 2015.
The top three winners include: Eco-Techno Park, Turkey, by Onat Oktem and Zeynep Oktem; Evergreen City: Urban pine forest rehabilitation, Lebanon, by Raed Abillama, Sawsan Bou Fakhreddine, and Youseef Abillama; and Incremental Construction: Low-cost modular housing scheme, Ethiopia, by Dirk Donath, Brook Haileselassie, Asgedom Berhe, Helawie Sewnet, Sarah Yusuf, Peter Dissel and Jokab Mettler.
