A look inside Studio Vertebra’s award-winning Istanbul project

Awarded the ‘Building Architecture’ and ‘Interior Architect of the Space’ awards at the Europe Property Awards, Studio Vertebra’s Novawood Office and Showroom project, located in Istanbul, was designed to reflect its host company as well as meet the needs of a working showroom.

The new office setting for Novawood, which offers trade and manufacturing of wood products including exterior and floor coating, parquet production, solid panel production and so on, sits in a repurposed building and features a front yard that can be used as a social green space, and a showroom and office units.

The showroom greats visitors on the ground floor and exhibits nearly 140 wood and parquet products, while the private work spaces are located on high levels.

“The Novawood Office and Showroom Building has been designed with the idea of reinforcing and transforming an existing building,” said the architects.

“The alternative design for the project includes free decisions in terms of form and budget. More efficient areas have been designed in the interior spaces by reinforcing the bearing systems of the structure and moving the staircase to the rear. The opening on the ground floor not only provided a secondary entrance to the basement floor but also fed the courtyard with natural light. The materials used in these areas have also provided the structure with the warmth of their nature.”

Inside, balanced design solutions provide warm and intimate spaces that highlight the use of Novawood’s products — the showroom, which spans a 250m2 area, mostly uses wood for its flooring, walls and furniture pieces.

The project was completed in 2016 and covers a total area of 1,800m2.
