Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill to design Dubai Burj 2020 tower

Supertall experts Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architects have been appointed to design Dubai’s proposed Burj 2020 tower.

What will be the world’s highest commercial tower has been chosen by  DMCC, the Government of Dubai Authority responsible for the development of the forthcoming Expo.

Hospitality and leisure design specialists WATG has also been appointed to deliver the masterplan for its Burj 2020 District.

Ahmed Bin Sulayem, executive chairman, DMCC said: “AS+GG and WATG come with a wealth of global destination and tower design expertise.

“Designing a world-class destination of this scale will set new levels of efficiency and urban sustainability and we are confident that our partners, in delivering the ‘Burj 2020 District’ and tower, will create a new address for the global business community of the future, right here in Dubai.”

Adrian Smith, founder of AS+GG based in Chicago, has designed many landmark buildings including the world’s tallest structure – Burj Khalifa while at SOM completed in 2010 in Dubai and  he is behind the Kingdom Tower, currently under construction in Jeddah.

Integrated with the Jumeirah Lakes Towers development, the Burj 2020 District will be a mixed-use district providing commercial, retail facilities and hotels.
