Chosen by the judges as winner of the Public Sector Project of the Year was the Hisham A. Alsager Cardiac Center, which is the work AGi Architects.
It was labelled by the panel as “a masterly design” and the members said it showed true attention to innovative detail as well as “providing the perfect platform for healthcare”.
The design team said it wished for the building to act as a “positive social space” rather than just be a place for treatment.
Nasser Bader Abulhasan, principal partner said: “The awards are a great driver for encouraging, besides us as designers, but encouraging clients to try and seek more work. But more so, from our point of view, is that it is a good recognition for the team. We value the team’s efforts and this is not a personal achievement, it is an office achievement for all their hard work.”
Describing the winning project, he said: “It is quite a unique healthcare project that we have developed in Kuwait. It is an inpatient-outpatient cardiac centre with a specialised in-house rehab centre, where overall the building’s role is to cater to the public. So whoever enters the building will actually re-sequence to try to enhance the healthcare experience and try to remove the stigma of the hospital being a negative space to be in.”
