This year’s Boutique Architecture Firm of the Year was AGi Architects – a company which has performed extremely consistently in the MEA Awards in recent years.
The winning firm’s “bold and contemporary designs” really stood out for the judges. One said how the company “continues to push good designs in every field”.
Nasser Abulhasan, owner of the company, said it was always a pleasure to be recognised by the industry as he was presented with his award by sponsors 3drModels.
“It’s fantastic to win this award,” he said. “It’s an encouragement for the whole team. What is beautiful is the morale boost it gives.”
Abulhasan said the improved economic outlook in the GCC and its impact on design and build was particularly valuable to smaller companies.
“In general business opportunities are opening up,” he said. “Prior to 2008 it was really the big companies who were the most influential and having the largest share of the market. But now it seems that clients are becoming more selective and are looking to work with architects who have a vision.”
The company also won the Concept of the Year award for its Seed House vision for what the judges called “mystical desert living”.
