Events held under the first Festival of Interior Design (FoID) will encourage interior design and creativity in the UAE, said the Association of Professional Interior Designers (APID).
APID is urging local organisations to host and organise partner events that help the festival showcase the work of emerging talent and design firms in the region.
“APID is looking towards making the first edition of FoID a truly memorable one by enjoining the region’s design community to hold events that can help us put the spotlight on unique talent in design and creativity,” said Farida Kamber Al Awadhi, president, APID.
“These partner events, which will run under the FoID umbrella of activities, are also important for APID’s commitment to bring the region’s interior design industry together, and act as a venue for young local creators, designers or artists, local retailers and design firms to showcase their talent alongside internationally renowned design experts,” she added.
APID is currently accepting proposals for events and activities from different members and organisations of the UAE design community. The deadline for submissions is September 22, 2011, however, APID is encouraging interested parties to submit their proposals as early as possible to take advantage of the marketing and media initiatives related to the festival.
The city-wide partner events include exhibitions of design portfolios and installations; city centric design trails and visits to key landmarks, hotels, schools and art galleries; lectures from world renowned designers; open master classes; workshops; and screening sessions of interior design based films at restaurants and other venues.
Festival partners can also organise open houses or open studio events and invite international designers to showcase their latest designs and give industry specific talks related to these projects.
The partner events are an integral part of FoID, which is being held from October 22-25, 2011, across Dubai, and are meant to elevate interior design and creativity within the UAE.
“The first Festival of Interior Design will feature a calendar of activities that have been carefully planned and thought of, with the chief aim of making Dubai and the UAE the next global hub for interior design,” added Al Awadhi.
