Dutch architects OMA, Sydney’s Hassel and international firm Populous have been chosen to redevelop Sydney’s convention, exhibition and entertainment zone at Darling Harbour.
The plan is to create a 40,000m2 exhibition centre with a red-carpet entertainment venue as well as a 900-room hotel and a new residential neighbourhood.
“Not only will it become a beacon for international visitors for conventions and events but will also build on the appeal of the Darling Harbour area for Sydney-siders, creating an entertainment hub that promises to reconnect and re-energise the city,” said Destination Sydney’s chief executive Malcolm Macintyre.
Construction for the project is set to complete by 2016. Other recent developments in the district include an office complex that won an award at the World Architecture Festival.
