London-based firm Areen has completed the majority of its interior design work for the new terminal buildings of King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) in Jeddah.
Enabling works started on site in February 2011 while basic infrastructure and structural work is now at an advanced stage. Interior works are due to commence in the main terminal later this year.
Areen was awarded the contract for interior design and supply management by contractor SBG in November 2010.
It is in charge of both the design of the interiors and the procurement management of interior finishes and furnishings for the whole project, including the passenger terminal complex, the control tower, the new railway station and numerous support and ancillary buildings, including a 120-key airport hotel.
The airport is due to be completed in 2014 and will handle 30 million passengers per year.
