Artigo’s Kayar flooring chosen for Children’s Civic Centre in Spain
Architects Miquel Mariné Núñez and César Rueda Boné have used Kayar rubber flooring, designed by Ettore Sottsass for Artigo, for a children’s centre in Alcaniz, Spain.
The brief was to renovate the old “Mercado de Abastos” (general market) in the town which has been transformed into a Civic Centre for Children respecting the hsitorical nature of the building.
The renovation was driven by the need to create a meeting place and a playground where children aged between 0 to 11 and their parents can spend time.
The ground floor is designed as an open space that can be used for events such as birthday parties and play days, while the second floor is divided into several rooms including a Kindergarden.
“The design for this project was to keep the large market hall as a playground for children. We chose to use a durable product in bright green for this as it adds interest in contrast to the structure of the room,” said Núñez.
“All of the furniture was specifically designed and built for the children and we chose Kayar rubber flooring for its non-toxicity, resistance, ease of maintenance and respect for the environment.”
Kayar rubber flooring comes in 24 different colours and the brilliant lime green K72, is the “flagship colour” of the company.
