Bollywood decorator attends Danube student awards

Rizwan Sajan (Founder & Chairman, Danube Group) & H.E. Humaid Mohammed Obeid Al Qattami (UAE Minister of Education) presenting the award to the winners.

Danube, construction, building materials and home interiors company and the Association of Professional Interior Designers (APID), have announced the winners of Danube Students Interior Design Awards 2012.

Attended by Bollywood interior decorator, Zarine Khan, at the Grand Hyatt, Dubai, the inaugural competition awarded 12 post-secondary students from the GCC, a total prize money of AED 85,000.


The winners were chosen from over 280 entries submitted in the two categories. The winning entry was Group- Ad.Infinitum (Suheyla Takesh, Rasha Muneer, Jumana Nizar Taha) who won AED 20,000 and the winners in the CEO’s category, Group AGU (Sali Magdi Ibrahim and Sadiq Ali Abdulrahim) won AED 5,000.

“We are thrilled to have won such a prestigious competition. Thank you so much for this great honour. It’s a chance of a lifetime and we feel incredibly fortunate of having excelled in a competition like this,” said Takesh.

Rizwan Sajan, founder/chairman, Danube Group, added the competition was part of a move to help boost the region’s interior design industry and to discover the talent of emerging interior designers.

“The success and the overwhelming response for this competition has given us the assurance to lay the groundwork for a more exciting and activity-filled second edition. We hope it will inspire more designers to come up with engaging and creative designs that best exemplify the talent and beauty of the region.”

The judges were;.Faten Alsarraf, MD, Final Fix Interiors, Indu Varanasi, MD, IR Design and Erick Casidsid, design manager, Gemaco Interiors. The designs were evaluated on functionality, presentation, innovation and usability. H.E. Humaid Mohammed Obeid Al Qattami, UAE Minister of Education, presented the awards to the winners.

Farida Kamber Al Awadhi, president, APID, said the overall quality of the submissions was of a high standard and the entrants demonstrated a holistic approach to sustainable design.

In addition to the winning entry and an honourable mention from the CEO, the competition recognised five winners in each category with special merit awards. They were;

Fourth Prize: Honorable Mention Group-E.R. Hedra (Erum Kamal, Reem Moussalli) Group- 2 (Aya Basil Dujaili, Norhan Abdel Maksoud, Aula K, Shahad Ayad Mohammed)
