After making its debut two years ago, the Commercial Interior Design editorial team has, once again, presented the Lifetime Achievement award to an individual who has stood out throughout the industry this past year.
This year’s winner demonstrated continued quality throughout his work in a long and successful career, full of significant milestones, plus a consistent contribution to the development of one or more organisations.
Brian Johnson, principal and managing partner, GAJ was lucky enough to receive this year’s title and was chosen due to his work on high profile and iconic projects in the UAE, such as Bab Al Shams, Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club and Dubai College.
Having established GAJ in 1975, Johnson distinguished career is in part defined by his consistent contribution to the region’s market. CID’s editorial team believes that he has had a profound influence over the direction of the region’s industry.
Due to Johnson’s busy schedule, he was unable to attend the awards. However, GAJ partner, Andrew Barley was able to pick up the award on Johnson’s behalf.
When asked why he thought Johnson won, Barley exclaimed: “It’s very straight forward. When I joined, there was a staff of 40-something, now because of his leadership and inspiration, the staff has tripled. He has a phenomenal vision, and GAJ is like one big family, and he believes in that family.”
He added: “Never does he flinch, no matter who he’s speaking with. We come out and we always win because he always tells the truth. ”
