Burnt-out tower in Zambia’s capital to receive $100m makeover

Society House

South Africa’s Louis Karol Architects is heading a US$100m development of Society House, a 1970s tower in the Zambian capital of Lusaka, which was gutted by a fire 14 years ago.

It is hoped that the scheme will act as a catalyst to ignite commercial interest in the city. The tower will see its dulled exterior re-faced in gleaming copper, one of the country’s main exports.

The redevelopment will transform the volume into a 160-room four star Holiday Inn hotel, with conferencing facilities, a retail mall, A-grade offices and a 1,100-car parking garage.
