Calatrava to design Taiwan university project

Acclaimed Spanish architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava was recently commissioned to design a building complex for Taiwan’s Yuan Ze University.

The project will consist of a performing arts centre, an art and design school and a memorial to the university’s founder.

Located at the centre of the complex, the performing arts building is defined by a dramatic curving roof that evokes traditional Taiwanese architecture.

The Y.Z. Hsu Memorial and art and design school are surrounded by water, with steel ribs forming the roofs.
