Chicago’s new Apple store features MacBook-inspired roof

Chicago’s new flagship Apple Store will feature a MacBook-inspired roof topping at its entrance, as videos from the Chicago Tribune and Twitter surfaced last week detailing the roof’s installation.

The roof was installed in separate panels

James McGrath, architect at Fosters + Partners, is on site

Designed by Foster + Partners, the design, which offers unobstructed views of the Chicago River as a tribute to Frank Lloyd Wright’s prairie-style homes just outside the city, consists of lightweight fibre-reinforced polymer in order to be as thin as possible.

The 20,000 square-foot store is divided into a glass entrance pavilion with a grand staircase that descends into the lower levels, and echoes its patented 5th Avenue design.
