CID Awards 2017: Sneha Divias Atelier wins award for residential design

CID Awards newcomer Sneha Divias Atelier took home the award for best residential design of the year for its work on Villa Palm Jumeirah. Judges praised the project’s refined colour palette, attention to detail and the overall FF&E and material selections, which “complemented the surroundings rather than fought with them.”

Divias’ work was lauded for its architectural layout, which was designed to alleviate the impression of the narrowness of the front zones. In creating a serene and holistic atmosphere, the designer opted for concealed lighting in the ceilings and the use of Carrara marble and herringbone tiles.

Accepting the award, Divias said she felt “amazing.” She added, “For me, the best recognition is when your project is successful and the clients like it, but recognition on an industry level really sets the bar for the rest of the year.”

According to the designer, the project was very context-based and catered to the clients and their needs, as well as the location. “The place dictated what we needed,” she said, “and I think it was very much about integrated architecture and responding to the context and the brief.”

Highly commended in the category, which was sponsored by Bond Interiors and presented by general manager Steve Kiernan, was Light Space Design’s Marina 23 Penthouse. Judges felt its use of furniture and art objects was “exemplary”.
