David Rockwell wins interior project at Hotel Bel Air LA

Wolfgang Puck Restaurant and Private Dining Room at Hotel Bel-Air

David Rockwell has completed work on the historic Hotel Bel Air in Los Angeles.

The hotel, on Sunset Boulevard, is a Los Angeles institution and has long been a favourite of the rich and famous including Grace Kelly, Cary Grant and Marilyn Monroe.

While maintaining the hotel’s signature style and intimate feel, Rockwell has restored the dining rooms and several public spaces in the hotel including the bar and terrace.

The design is inspired by the legendary character of the hotel, known for giving guests the sense of being in a luxurious private residence surrounded by gardens.

Some of the historic elements have been restored while Rockwell and his team have added modern touches to encourage interesting juxtapositions between old and new.

The indoor and outdoor environments are intertwined, so Rockwell Group is enhancing the connection between the restaurants and the garden experiences throughout the property.

In the hotel restaurant – Wolfgang Puck at Hotel Bel-Air – every guest will feel close to the gardens with the addition of an indoor/outdoor patio and windows that open to an exterior green wall.

Uncovered skylights and stacking doors let natural light pour into the space. A marble-clad hearth flanked by wine cellars creates a central focal point for the restaurant and the private dining/wine room includes a window looking directly into the kitchen.
