The sixth Domotex Middle East show will feature a showcase of the traditional carpet making trade in Afghanistan
Hand knotted Afghani carpets, which are created as part of the Tanweer Fatma Bint Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Initiative (FBMI), a UAE carpet production and community development project in Afghanistan, will be a feature of the event.
“We are delighted to offer a platform for Tanweer FBMI to showcase their beautiful handmade carpets to both a regional and international audience. By participating at focused international trade fairs, Tanweer FBMI acts to develop Afghanistan’s ancient carpet & handicraft industry across international markets,” said Angela Schaschen, managing director, Deutsche Messe Dubai branch, organiser of Domotex Middle East.
Tanweer FBMI is a partnership between Tanweer investments and Her Highness Shaikha Fatma Bint Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the UAE which aims to fight poverty through grass root level delivery of community based development programs that lead to better standards of living.
The hand knotted carpets are created by Afghanistan artisans, predominantly women, and are hand woven using indigenous Afghan wool with chemical-free vegetable dye.
Tanweer FBMI operates out of its head office in Kabul, Afghanistan, with regional offices in Dubai, London and Geneva.
Exhibitors will attend from 17 countries; Bangladesh, Belgium, Chile, China, France, Germany, India, Iran, Japan, Netherlands, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Afghanistan and the UAE.
The event dedicated to the floor covering industry will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from September 12-14, 2011.
