Construction work on the Dubai Tram system is “93 per cent complete”, according to the Roads and Transport Authority.
Mattar Al Tayer, chairman of the board and executive director of the RTA, said the tram’s depot and maintenance works are expected to be completed by August.
Testing of the cars is also underway and the network is expected to start running in November
Al Tayer also visited the tram depot, which comprise of 11 buildings that can house around 25 trams.
The depot includes a control centre for the rail operations which ensures the safety of doors, brakes and motors of each tram in addition to air-conditioners along with other ancillary electronic systems, maintenance workshops and washing and cleaning workshops.
