The second phase of testing for Dubai’s new $1bn tram system begins today (Wednesday).
Trial s will take place between stops six to nine – Marina Towers, Mina Seyahi, Media City and Palm Jumeirah.
The third and final phase of testing is schduled to take place on June 14 between stops one to five, which run parallel to Jumeriah Lakes Towers and Dubai Marina metro stations,
The first phase of testing – between stops 10 to 11 and the depot – running parallel to Dubai Internet City and Sharaf DG metro stations began in January.
The first phase of Dubai Tram is a 10km long route, which will stretch along Al Sufouh Road and consists of 11 stations scheduled to start operations in November.
The tram is expected to carry about 27,000 riders per day at the start of operations in 2014 rising to 66,000 riders per day by 2020.
On completion, the tram will link with the Dubai Metro at three stations along Sheikh Zayed Road and will also tie-up with the monorail on the Palm Jumeirah.
