Dubai’s Jewel of the Creek to be completed by 2019

The Jewel of the Creek project in Dubai, which will include hotels, apartments, offices and a conference centre, is set to be completed in the first half of 2019.

Dubai-based architecture and design firm GAJ has been appointed as design consultants on the project.

In our interview with Kevin McLachlan, head of interior design at GAJ, he said: “This project pays tribute to the historic importance of the Creek and local heritage. We have done a completely different design for more than a dozen restaurants, which will be located within a destination food and beverage mall on the Creek side.

“We are currently designing a three-star hotel, a four-star hotel, and a non-alcoholic one, which are targeting different types of guests,” he said.

Dubai’s transport authority said in a statement that it has awarded a AED375 contract for roads and tunnels leading to the project, which is being built between Al Maktoum Bridge, Baniyas Road and the Floating Bridge covering a 123,955 sq m plot of land.

It added that the Jewel of the Creek has been designed as a “landmark tourist destination adding further prominence to the city and the tourist profile of the area”.

Dubai’s Creek neighborhood is currently experiencing an architectural overhaul, including Santiago Calatrava’s high rise tower, complete with apartments, meeting places, and observation decks which will offer 360-degree views and gardens on different levels. The project will be located in Dubai Creek Harbour.
