The upcoming 15 hectare waterpark on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island will have an Emirati theme, it was announced.
Developed by Aldar and operated by Farah Leisure Parks Management, the waterpark will include 40 rides, slides and attractions, including a pearl diving show demonstrating traditional Emirati heritage.
Mike Oswald, park manager, said: “The story told throughout the waterpark remains true to Emirati traditions & heritage, while bringing the latest in design & innovation to the heart of Abu Dhabi’s thriving Yas Island. The traditional Emirati theme will really bring the park to life.”
The waterpark’s theme is based on a specially-created story, ‘The Lost Pearl’, which follows the adventures of a young Emirati girl in search of an exquisite pearl which will bring prosperity to the people of her village.
Earlier this year, UAE-based contractor Alec was awarded the $165million contract for the water park. Work commenced on 20 February and completion is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2012.
