Located in Hradcanske Square, Prague, Czech Republic, the Prague National Gallery has recently completed its new modern entrance, designed by Mateo Arquitectura.
Situated between the various palaces which make up the national gallery, the new entrance is an open, one level space that appears as a natural extension of the ground.
The design consists of two parallel planks, one for the roof and one for the ground. While the ground level appears as a smooth continuation of the earth below, the roof partially separates itself from the surrounding buildings, and boasts interesting sky lights and a gravel platform.
Inside, the entrance hall is an open volume complete with natural light and side glass panels which allow visitors to enjoy the exterior views of the surrounding buildings.
