Bologna-based Mario Cucinella Architects has won a design competition to design ARPT’s new headquarters, a telecommunications agency from Algiers, Algeria.
The concept of the design proposal centres on natural forms that relate to the location’s surrounding environment.
The fin-like shape recalls the sand dunes of the Algerian desert landscape, while also considering traditional Mediterranean architecture.
Furthermore, the design boasts a sustainable element as the shape allows for natural cooling—hot winds blow above the convex surface at the top, while the concave wall just opposite attracts cool air in the evenings.
The headquarters is located just on the outskirts of Algiers and is intended to be the city’s symbol of development.
