Four firms have been shortlisted to design the Lusail Stadium in Qatar that is set to become the centerpiece for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Foster + Partners, David Chipperfield Architects, Mossessian & Partners and Mangera Yvars Architects are competing to design the 80,000 seat stadium, alongside Zaha Hadid’s Wakrah stadium.
This new shortlist was created after eliminating the previous plan which the organisers though did not “reflect modern Qatari design and culture.”
The four contestants have been asked to attend workshops to “ensure the fresh design met expectations”.
Foster + Partners has previously already worked on a design for the stadium, the ‘Lusail Iconic’, a concept that formed part of Qatar’s initial bid for the event.
Proposals for the stadium have been submitted, however there are still no details revealed on the designs.
