Houses designed by famous US architect Frank Lloyd Wright rarely come on the market.
So when they do they are highly sought after.
This Mid-century Modern house in Minneapolis is offered for sale for the first time by the original owners.
It is described by the listing agent Berg Larsen Group-Coldwell Banker as close to “downtown” yet set on an “extremely private” piece of land at the end of a quiet cul de sac.
The house was built in 1960, and comes with a high vaulted-ceiling great room with walls of glass and extensive built-in timber cabinetry. There are numerous other custom features, including banquette seating, extensive timber wall panelling and triangle light fittings.
Frank Lloyd Wright, who died just before the house was finished developed the architectural style known as “Prairie School” and is among the greatest architects of the 20th century.
His Fallingwater house in southwestern Pennsylvania, designed for the Kaufmann family, remains one of his most celebrated works. It features a series of cantilevered platforms and balconies above a waterfall.
Wright is also known for having a good turn of phrase that gave rise to the following famous quotes:
“A doctor can bury his mistakes but an architect can only advise his clients to plant vines.”
“Early in life I had to choose between honest arrogance and hypocritical humility. I chose honest arrogance and have seen no occasion to change.”
“I believe in God, only I spell it Nature.”
