Gallery shows tragic American icons

The work of French photographer Gerard Rancinan is  currently on show at the Opera Gallery in Dubai’s Gate Village Building 3.

“On the Way back from Disneyland” shows a crashed car containing the bodies of  Andy Warhol, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley in front of a stylised Hollywood desert backdrop.

Does it celebrate a “live fast, die young, leave a good-looking corpse” philosophy,  commiserate “the death of the American dream” or mean something else entirely?

And what does the crow represent? Is it a cameo by Alfred Hitchcock? You decide…..

Not sure what this piece is trying to show…that James and Marilyn actually lived beyond the time we were led to believe? They are pictured in a car built in 1966.
