Emirati artists have been giving their own interpretations of characters from TV’s hit show Game of Thrones with textured impressions displayed on real-life warrior shields.
Currently on display in Dubai Mall the likenesses of fan favourites such as Danaerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister are proving a hit with visitors.
The 20 metallic shields on which the designs are printed are the creation of Dubai blacksmith Oddvar Lonnerkrantz – a man who is the direct descendant of the last Viking king of Denmark, Sven Estridsen.
“They asked me to create proper metallic shields, not just props” said Lonnerkrantz who drew up his designs after studying artefacts from museums.
The exhibits in the display – called Game of Arts – will be sold at a silent auction to raise funds for Super Hope UAE, which supports children with life threatening conditions.
