A preview of some of the exhibits to be shown at the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will be on show at an exhibition opening this year.
The Frank Gehry-designed museum is still under construction, but a selection of works will be displayed at Manarat Al Saadiyat from November to January.
The exhibition is entitled “Seeing Through Light” and will be comprised of work from 18 international artists from the 1960s to the present.
The Guggenheim, expected to be completed in 2017, is one of three museums that will comprise the Saadiyat Cultural District. The other museums are the Louvre, which will be completed next year, and the Zayed National Museum, which will be ready in 2016.
It will offer a “transnational perspective on art and visual culture since the 1960s, with a strong focus on art from the Middle East, exploring the specific identity derived from the cultural traditions of Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates”, a statement from Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority said.
