A team containing Henning Larsen Architects has won the competition for a new primary school in Aarhus, Denmark.
The building ‘The School on the Terraces’ will meet the stringent low-energy Danish building regulations for 2020.
Kristian Würtz, Alderman in the Department of Children and Youth Affairs in Aarhus and Chairman of the jury, said: “The project puts great emphasis on sustainable and educational principles, which creates a good transition between the green areas and the urban space.
“[It is] is an excellent proposal for how the school of the future should look. The building opens up to the surroundings and constitutes a unifying element in the area.”
The new school will replace the existing school N.J. Fjordsgades Skole which also comprises afterschool programmes and daycare facilities.
The project team also consists of contractor Hoffmann, GPP Architects, landscape architects Møller & Grønborg and consulting engineer NIRAS.
