Herzog and de Meuron design gym in Brazil

Herzog and de Meuron, the architect behind China’s Bird’s Nest Stadium, has revealed its design for a school gymnasium in Brazil using local materials.

The gym is the “pioneering architectural project” of a larger urban plan for the neighborhood of Mãe Luiza in Natal, Brazil.

The naturally conditioned building is made up of three main elements – a grand roof, a continuous floor and a single undulating wall.

All the elements are constructed with materials and techniques typical for the region.
