High rise plans for Amazon tourist resort

Designs have been released by Peru-based firm Cheng Franco Arquitectos for a resort 356m above sea level in the Peruvian Amazon.

Tourism is one of the main drivers in Tarapoto – the City of Palms – as travellers often begin their trek through the Amazon Rainforest from the community high in the hills.

The plans are for 20 bungalows, 30 double rooms, a 300-seat auditorium, 2 multipurpose rooms, a restaurant and bar, sports area with swimming pool, and supporting administration and services spaces.

Practice directors Lorena Franco and Jorge Cheng said: “The design challenges the expected conventional pitched roof building that is often built in the rain forest and instead, it proposes a flexible architectural modular system which can be dispersed or increased in size, in a controlled form, offering different solutions but maintaining an architectural consistency.”
