ISG’s Kempinski Mall of the Emirates refurbishment has won the firm the Interior Fit-Out Project of the year, a new category introduced at this year’s CID Awards.
The firm’s scope of work included a complete upgrade of all guest rooms, suites, ski chalets and pool cabanas, in addition to F&B outlets, meeting rooms, gym and the enhancement of the existing façade, adding a new façade lighting system.
The judges praised the complex layering of luxurious materials and details that were installed with exacting precision by ISG.
One of the judges commended the complex design and detailing of the various elements within the hotel, all while the hotel remained open, proving the efficiency, planning and calibre of this fit-out contractor.
“The level of detail executed is top notch and worthy of praise,” the judges added.
“We are delighted about winning the award. It is a prestigious project for a prestigious client who had the confidence in ISG to take on this challenge,” said Steve Ramsden, managing director at ISG.
He added: “The reality is that this is the biggest refurbishment of a live hotel that the UAE has ever seen, so you can imagine working in a live environment, trying to keep the hotel running while you are refurbishing the room. That was the biggest challenge. Also, trying to maintain safety. Safety is key to any project, which includes maintaining public safety, staff safety and guest safety.”
Commenting on the fit-out industry in the region, Ramsden said: “I think the industry is striving. We are as busy with tendering as we have been in a long time. I think the biggest challenge for the region as a whole is confidence. For us it’s also maintaining the quality of what we do as well as the price point, and that’s something we are looking forward to in 2017.”
