This year’s Young Architect prize went to Islam Mashtooly, senior architect at Godwin Austen Johnson.
Mashtooly’s entry impressed the judges for the level of insight it gave not only to his commitment to excellence in design, but to his faith and love for family and culture.
In addition to his work as an architect, Mashtooly also lectures at the Ajman University of Science and Technology.
Upon winning the award, Mashtooly said: “I’m very excited. I’ve been working towards this award for a full year. I think the diversity of my work impressed the judges. I’ve been teaching and working at the same time, combining academic and practical work.”
“This win will put pressure on me to do more and more – it’s a great first step,” he added.
Nima Mokary was highly commended for his innovative and forward-thinking designs.
