Istanbul centre inspired by cave houses

Turkey rock

California-based Dinkoff Architects and Engineers has designed a Disaster Prevention and Education Centre for Istanbul, Turkey, which draws inspiration from the region’s cave dwellings.

Entitled Rock-Sette, the design is described as ‘modern abstract expressionism where sculptural expression takes charge’ by the architects.

The building will have contain two main blocks connected by a glass atrium which houses the main circulation.

Its layout reflects the haphazard and organic nature of the cave dwellings.

Facilities include a conference hall, planetarium, library and fire fighting training room.

Ponds will provide purified water and help to cool the building, while solar panels will generate all the required electricity.
