The Jam Jar, a creative space that works to promote artists and support the development of Dubai’s arts scene, has partnered the Association of Professional Interior Designers (APID), to display seven entries of the ‘Product Design Competition’ during the Festival of Interior Design (FoID) at Index in October, 2011.

The products will be exhibited at he Jam Jar from October 17-29, during which time, a jury will pick out the best four products, which will be auctioned off at a FoID Gala Dinner on October 22.

“We are very excited to host the exhibition that will showcase the top ten finalists of the inaugural ‘Product Design’ competition,” said Deepa Bhatia, head of art consulting, The Jam Jar.

“Over the last few years, we have remained true to our objective of serving as a key venue to highlight the works of the region’s creative minds. This commitment is something that we share in common with APID and the first ever Festival of Interior Design proves to be the most opportune time to hold a competition showcasing local creative talent.”

Participants to the competition are asked to submit a product design that is relevant to the interior design industry and fits one of three interior categories, which are: innovative interior finish, interior furniture and accessories.

During the judging and evaluation process, the judges will shortlist entries based on form, function and innovation.

“So far, we have been receiving many inquiries about the Product Design competition, which reflects the large pool of creative talent that we have in the Middle East today,” said Farida Abdullah Kamber Al Awadhi, president, APID.

”The competition will serve as a strategic opportunity for us to tap into a diverse section of individual designers, firms and organizations and feature their creative talent to the rest of the region. We are looking forward to seeing the top ten entries on display at The Jam Jar which has earned the distinction of being a world class artist’s venue.”
